Bulange is one of the true prides of Buganda. It is a building that houses the Lukiiko (parliament) of the Kingdom of Buganda. As such this apartment is the perfect balance between classic Buganda tradition and contemporary décor.
You know that you are somewhere special when you step into this calming space. The first space you encounter when you walk in, is the kitchen on your right. It is flanked by granite work surface and built in cabinets that set off the stainless steel equipment.
On your left is a low lying formal dining table that shows its luster beneath a bouquet of flowers nestled on the wall. This space is cozy enough to sit with family, friends or even by oneself and enjoy a hot cup of Ugandan coffee or tea.
Beyond the living room is a private porch on which one can wind down as they watch the setting sun or catch up with the day’s newspapers. The large French windows and doors flood the apartment with warm lighting that streams through the sheer crisp curtains.
A pair of round coffee tables play a supporting role in these scene by highlighting a Buganda cultural artifact the guard which is used to store a traditional drink made from ripe bananas which are fermented into wine. The guard sits on a base called Enkata that prevents it from falling over.
Harvested from Ugandan nature and tastefully crafted into an entertainment centre whose beauty is amplified by the simple rustic decorative detail, like the pots commonly used for storage of water or cooking. The bamboo reeds traditionally used in construction of homesteads.
What better place to lay your head than on rich cotton linen embellished with throw cushions and bed runners in diplomatic and peaceful sky hues.
